Does healthy body really equal healthy mind? Part 2

Many people spend their entire lives attempting to define and search for happiness - as if it is an elusive goal - as if it is unattainable.  There are those that live intensely, living the "sprinter's" version where life is intense and borderline extreme.  And on the other hand end of the spectrum, there is the "marathon" version pacing forwards sure and steady.  There is no absolute right or wrong.  The same goes for the pursuit of optimal health - there are multiple roads that lead to "perfect health" that are specific for each individual.

For example, in the natural health industry, there are theories such as “eat for your body type” or even “eat for your blood type” that some support as ultimate health for individuals.  Eating for your blood type is interesting.  I am “A-.“ Therefore, I am considered to be  “a new human” and should be eating more grains and alkaline food as opposed to protein based foods such as meat because meat is what our later ancestors ate.  Meat and protein are appropriate for  “older humans,” for the “O” blood types as tens of thousands of years ago our ancestors consumed proteins.   There is merit to this thought.  However, in my opinion, this theory falls short of what makes us healthy both inside and out.  .

Generally speaking, there is a correlation between optimal health and happiness.  If we are healthy; we are then usually happy.  In my modest opinion – it’s all about balance – not veering towards the extremes of the spectrum when it comes to the search for health and happiness.  In fact, the balance comes from simply enjoying the journey about learning from our bodies and understanding what makes them healthy as it is understanding ourselves and what makes us happy.

Often the journey is not as smooth as we hoped. There are mistakes, unexpected occurrences and even unwelcomed surprises.  Yet that is what the journey is all about – learning and understanding as we move forward with time.  If we were suddenly given perfect health and happiness from a wave of a magic wand, would we truly be fulfilled?  Ask yourself this question, ”If I don’t  take the time and effort to learn and understand  what makes me healthy and happy, would I feel sated?”   In my humble opinion, we often don’t appreciate anything unless we have worked for it.
