DMAA Dangers AKA “Geranium Oil” Not Just In Jack3d

As my blog post about users of Jack3d by USP Labs got a lot of attention especially on the Chinese Weibo I thought it best to add a few more points so there is no miss understanding. To be clear it is NOT just USP Labs or Jack3d specifically but it is the ingredient they choose to use as their stimulant '1,3 Dimethylamylamine,' 'Methylhexanamine,' and 'Geranainine' (hereinafter referred to as 'DMAA').  It is this ingredient that is causing the controversy and in fact has had more than one brand in America in legal court battles recently – not just USP Labs. This ingredient is used by quite a few well-known sports brands and products mostly sold in America.  Some of these DMAA based products are also available in China.

The U.S brand BPI Sports uses this ingredient as well in their top selling products such as 1MR (pre-workout), Roxy Lean ECA (fat loss) and Rx6 (fat loss).  They are currently battling in court over not warning consumers of the health dangers of using such products and that is banned by many sporting bodies for professional athletes such as: WADA and MLB.

"In addition, though DMAA is claimed to be an extract of geranium oil, most of the DMAA contained in products currently on the market it wholly 'synthetic' DMAA, completely manufactured in laboratories, and is not derived from the geranium plant in any way whatsoever. In fact, plaintiffs are informed and believe and on that basis allege that the DMAA in BPI's products is purely synthetic. Significantly, recent studies have also concluded that there is no DMAA whatsoever in geranium oil, that DMAA is not extracted from geranium oil, and that all DMAA on the market is synthetic. Because DMAA is a wholly synthetic substance, it is not a 'dietary ingredient,' and BPI's products are not 'dietary supplements' as those concepts are defined by applicable regulations promulgated by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration."

November 2011 the International Association Of Athletes Association (IAAF) banned 2 professional athletes for testing positive use of DMAA. More about this here: http://www.nutraingredients.com/Regulation/IAAF-bans-two-athletes-for-DMAA-doping-both-blame-food-supplements

What is surprising is you can still currently by products such as Jack3d, Oxyelite Pro, 1MR and Rx6 in America but this ingredient and products containing this ingredient have been banned already in Canada and other countries.  America being the open country it is has its good and bad points about it and although there has been a lot of health dangers and athletes been banned due to supposed use of DMAA based products the legal system works slowly in the US to catch up. More about ban in Canada here: http://www.nutraingredients-usa.com/Industry/Health-Canada-DMAA-is-not-from-geranium

There are safe choices pre-workout products out there that work extremely well, are 100% drug free and even say on the label “Geranium Free” so you know you are not getting any DMAA ingredient in the product. You only have one body and your health is the most important.  It is so well known in the industry that it is unhealthy that some companies such as All American EFX actually print on the front of their label “100% Geranium Free” as to guarantee consumers safe drug free products. Some safe choices that I recommend that also work very well and I have personally used are:

--All American EFX – K-Otic             --BSN NoXplode                         --CytoSport Monster Pump

World Health Store (WHS) has a strong commitment to providing 100% drug free safe products so you will not find any DMAA (Geranium Oil) based products in our stores or website for sale.  We could have sold this product if our motivation was just about money as it is very easy to source from American suppliers – but we prefer to stick to the WHS brand ideals no matter how strong the temptation of greed becomes. There are many other safe drug free pre-workout products other than the products WHS sells (from the list above that I recommended) just be sure that your choice is DMAA free / AKA Geranium Oil free products! And if possible also ensure the products are certified drug free from a 3rd party tester or are NSF Certified to be safe and drug free.

There are many sources of this on the Internet about this subject – these are just a few I found for those that want to read more about this subject:
